– Mick Foley’s throwback Thursday is looking at Paul Bearer’s heel turn on the Undertaker:
20 YEARS AGO, TODAY
It was only my second win over The Undertaker in 42 tries – but this win at #SummerSlam, which included the Paul Bearer heel turn changed EVERYTHING! #ThrowbackThursday . Even with a record of 2-40, YES, 2 WINS AND 40 DEFEATS, “Uncle Paul” and I were off and running, and the Undertaker/Mankind feud left a large enough footprint that we were able to run with it through the remainder of 1996 – with PPV matches in October and November (UT interfered in my September PPV, I interfered in his December PPV), and return to it in 1997 – when I was Undertaker’s first opponent following his WWE title win at #WrestleManiaXIII, and again in 1998 for that #HIAC match that I still get asked about from time to time.
In my opinion, without this victory 20 years ago today, the feud would have fizzled out and we simply would not have had the history to revisit. Let me know what you think. Hey #HolyFoley is JUST 3 DAYS AWAY….only on #WWENetwork right after #SummerSlam
